New Free Water Play Area 'Saltwich Splash' Opens in Droitwich Spa This April

If you are looking for a fun and free family day out near Worcester this spring and summer, there is exciting news for local families. The brand new water play area in Lido Park, Droitwich Spa is due to open on Friday 3 April 2026, giving children a brilliant place to cool off, splash about and burn off some energy.

The new splash area is expected to be a popular addition for families in Worcestershire, especially on warm days when you need an easy, low-cost outing. Best of all, it is free to use, making it a great option for parents searching for budget-friendly things to do with the kids near Worcester.

When does the Droitwich Spa water play area open?

The new water play area at Lido Park in Droitwich Spa opens on Friday 3 April 2026. It will then be open daily from 10am to 6pm, with the season expected to run through to September, weather permitting.

That makes it a perfect option for the Easter holidays, weekend outings, after school treats and summer park trips with the kids.

Where is the new splash park?

The new water play area is located in Lido Park, Droitwich Spa, which is already a popular family destination thanks to its open green space and play facilities. The park is an easy day out from Worcester and works well for families wanting somewhere simple, outdoors and free.

If you are planning a visit, it is worth packing towels, a change of clothes and some snacks, especially if your children are the type to run straight into the fountains without testing how cold the water is first.

Why families will love it

Free water play areas are always a big hit with children, and this one is likely to become one of the top places for families to visit in the Worcester area this summer. For younger children, it offers a fun sensory play experience and a chance to cool down safely in a playful environment. For older children, it is a great way to let off steam while enjoying the outdoors.

For parents, it is exactly the sort of outing that ticks all the right boxes. It is free, easy, outdoors and ideal for meeting up with friends or adding onto a park day.

What about the fencing concerns?

Wychavon District Council has said it is listening to feedback from residents about the lack of fencing around the new Lido Park water play area. A public consultation is expected in the summer to look at the issue of fencing around all three of the district’s water play areas.

That means families may see further discussions or possible changes in future, but for now the new splash area is set to open as planned at the start of April.

More water play areas opening in Wychavon

It is not just Droitwich Spa families can look forward to. Pershore and Abbey Park, Evesham are also set to open their water play areas on Friday 10 April 2026. That gives families across Worcestershire even more options for free outdoor fun during the warmer months.

Is the Droitwich Spa splash park free?

Yes, the new water play area in Droitwich Spa is expected to be free to use. That makes it one of the best free things to do with children near Worcester this spring and summer.

Top tips for visiting with kids

  • Bring towels and a full change of clothes
  • Pack water shoes or sandals with grip if your child prefers them
  • Take sun cream, hats and drinks on warm days
  • Arrive earlier in the day if the weather is good, as these spaces can get busy
